Hemming Jaki's Pants With A Cuff

Originally these pants are from D.I.--by the way Jaki doesn't really like D.I. (well not like I do anyway).  While we were there, she got 2 pairs of pants because school starts in less than a month.  She wanted a short and long pair of capris with cuffs on the bottom.  So I went to work and here's how I did it.

I have some capris (from D.I. too--I'm there a lot! :) that have a cuff that she liked.

1. She tried them on and we measured for the length she wanted them.
2. I measured the cuff on the capris mentioned above and doubled it. (1 3/4" x 2 = 3.5")
3. I cut the pants off at the length measured + the doubled measurement of the hem (length + 3.5")

4. Then I rolled the bottom of the pant leg up 1 1/2" and then again 1/1/2" to make the cuff. (and pinned as I went)

6. I sewed one side of the cuff.
7. Then I did the other side.

(This is the other pair of pants)

This is the finished product of one pair--the other one turned out great too--they look great on her!

DIY Subway Art using PicMonkey Part 2

So yesterday I posted the first Subway Art I made, and I liked doing it so much that I made another one! So here we go, Part 2. Also if you want to learn how to do this, either Google Search it like I did, or I can give you the blog address for a really helpful tutorial. It's so amazingly easy! Scroll down for the free download. I'm making them all for an 8x10 frame, but you can probably customize it if needed. Thanks to my little sister for all the great quotes.

DIY Subway Art using PicMonkey

So I helped my little sister Jaki clean up her room, cuz she was fed up with it.  We'll see if she can keep it clean (yah right).  Any way i decided she needed to make some changes besides cleaning.  She has these quotes taped on one wall and I think it looks tacky.  She has a few extra frames so I made one of the quotes into Subway Art.  So here's my best shot at it.  Just remember that this is my first try! Scroll down to see the finished product.  You can use it as you please.  More are on the way :)

Salt Lake Trip

For the 4th of July, we went to Salt Lake with my dad's side of the family.  We were there for the 3rd-7th.  We went shopping at City Creek--my first time at H&M.  I also went to Plato's Closet for my first time and I'm totally going back.  Then a Salt Lake Bees game.  And finally Lagoon.  Before we left on Sunday, we went to Music and the Spoken Word with the Tabernacle Choir.  Scroll down for pics.

Here's my ticket...got a pretty good seat.  I'd never been to a baseball game outside of Little League.  The Bees lost :(

I got really bored, I'm not into sports.  But here's a pic.  My mom made me go :)

They had fireworks after...yay! They were way loud tho cuz we were so close to them.

It's blurry, but this is Jaki's fav ride--The Scrambler.  I had to go on it like 5 times.  Got a little bit dizzy.

This is a cute cousin on his fav ride.

Here's the youngest cousin with my dad.  He's always smiling -- so cute

I saw this sign on one of the rides... it said no thongs.  They're flip-flops!!!  Can't believe they were called that!

Here's us inside the conference center at Temple Square after Music and the Spoken word.  It was amazing.

Here's us again with the temple in the background.  Families are forever.

94.1 FM Contest: The Voices Tour Concert

So I entered a contest that Planet 94.1 was hosting...I listen to them all the time.  I actually won!  I put my mom's name in cuz you had to be 18.  They called my phone when I was in the shower, so Jaki answered.  When they asked for my mom, she told them they had the wrong number and gave them another one.  I forgot to tell my mom I had entered, but luckily when the station called her she accepted the tickets.  She wasn't going to turn down free tickets! haha

We got Backstage Passes to meet the performers and good seats at the concert.
These guys were all on the voice... and they all are from Utah!  Didn't know we were that exciting, did ya :)

Girls Camp Part 1

So for Girl's Camp this year, I was a 5th year and had so much fun.  I was assigned a "Secret Sister" and it took me forever to find gifts.  After ransacking Pinterest and Google, I realized I would have to be creative by myself.  I was just talking about this with my cousin Shaylee...because of Pinterest, we never actually have our own ideas anymore, we just use someone elses.
Here's what I did--feel free to copy!

I attached the EXTRA Diligent thingy-ma-bobber to a pack of extra gum and gave it to my secret sister with the Galatians scripture, and I put the Camp Blow Dryer card in a bag with a balloon. And just for fun I put a water bottle with a Drink Mix attached to it on her pillow. I put the Spiritual Directory Assistance on her pillow the last day of camp. Scroll down for links.

“Creation brings deep satisfaction and fulfillment. We develop ourselves and others when we take unorganized matter into our hands and mold it into something of beauty. Dieter F. Uchtdorf, “Happiness, Your Heritage,” Nov. 2008 general conference

By the way, if you don't know what Girl's Camp is--it's part of my religion.  We young women go to camp and have so much fun as well as strengthen our testimonies in the gospel.  I'm a 5th year which means this is my fifth year going and I get to help plan/prepare for it as well as have leadership experiences.

Sorry- in the Google Docs page it's a little off- I made it in Microsoft Word.

and the Galatians quote was given to me by a YW leader, but I searched and found it here.
